The mission of the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is to create and preserve opportunities for affordable housing and economic development and to revitalize underserved communities in the District of Columbia.

      • Rehabilitation and Repairs

DHCD helps eligible low- and moderate-income applicants finance home improvements including the repair and replacement of roofing, heating, plumbing, and electrical systems, and disability accessibility modifications. Assistance for repairs is mainly in the form of loans, some of which may be forgivable or deferred based on eligibility. Grants may be available for lead and disability accessibility, based on eligibility.
